The event was attended by the key players in the Network's history

The Spanish Global Compact Network celebrated its fifth anniversary on 23 November last, in cooperation with MAPFRE. The Network is the corporate social responsibility initiative with the largest membership in Spain. Accompanying the organisation on this special day were the main players from the most recent years of the Global Compact's career.
Juan José Almagro, general manager of Communications and Social Responsibility at MAPFRE and a member of the Global Compact's Executive Committee, opened the day's celebrations with the welcome address and a reflection on CSR from the perspective of businesses.
The chairman of the Global Compact in Spain, Juan de la Mota, introduced the speakers and the video released by the Global Compact to mark the Network's fifth anniversary. The next to speak were Santander Foundation President Borja Baselga and the Deusto Business School's current director, Manuel Escudero. Both speakers pointed out that the Global Compact played and still plays the role of setting the standard for private-sector CSR policy.
Salvador García-Atance, chairman of the Spanish Network of the Global Compact between 2004 and 2008, led those present on a look back at the initiative's early years.
Isabel Garro presented the publication released by the Spanish Network to commemorate its anniversary. The document lists the good practices signatories have used over the last five years and stresses the effort made by the Network's members.
Within the process of ongoing improvement in the realm of construction, the publication highlights the introduction of a system of good practice selection at FCC's workplaces that fosters engagement throughout the workforce.
Joaquín Garralda, secretary of the Spanish Global Compact Network and dean of academics at the IE Business School, laid particular emphasis on the Global Compact's role as an international pacesetter in CSR.
