Employment stability

For FCC Construcción, employment stability is fundamental in order to build a team of workers who are committed and satisfied, and motivated to improve results.

In 2007, FCC Construcción employed 26,839 people, a 10.2% increase on 2006. This increase is partly accounted for by the inorganic growth due to the geographic diversification which the company is undergoing.

Equal opportunities and integration in the workforce

Our Human Resources policy promotes the integration of the most disadvantaged groups in the workforce as well as the drive for and promotion of equal opportunities.

Diversity really exists in the company: in the Spanish labour market where there is a growing number of immigrants, as well as the increasing number of ever more qualified women entering the labour market.

The company is committed to the incorporation of people with disabilities into the workforce.

We comply with the law regarding the integration of people with disabilities by recruiting them to work with us, and also by alternative means such as working with Special Employment Centres. FCC Construcción signed an agreement to collaborate with the ADECCO Foundation in May 2007. The development of the Family Plan was a direct result of this collaboration.

Personal and professional development

Internal training and communication boost the personal and professional development of our employees.

Training

Training, which is ongoing, is geared towards providing employees with the knowledge and skills necessary impruvement and personal and knowledge-based professional development.

It is structured in various stages:

  • Welcome training: facilitates integration of new employees.
  • Basic training: provides knowledge about construction activities and works management.
  • Recycling training: provides knowledge about new building systems, skills and approaches to new technologies, management of the environment, Health and Safety or planning.

This is provided to all groups in the company in order to achieve a real ongoing training of the personnel.

In all work centres, the training requirements are identified by means of an annual survey on which the annual training plan is based.

The training activities are evaluated by means of measuring the level of satisfaction of the participants and by evaluating the knowledge and skills acquired.

Internal communication

Internal communication enables employees to be better informed, more involved and aware of initiatives, putting them in line with company strategy.

Internal communication is promoted in FCC Construcción so that employees are well informed and understand the company and its activities. Furthermore, channels are set up to listen to employees, the main platform used being Intranet.

A safe working environment

FCC Construcción is working every day to care for the wellbeing of its workers. It is concerned for their quality of living in a culture of health and safety at work for the whole company which extends to sub-contractors, clients, society and the physical surroundings.

FCC Construcción has implemented a management system and developed mechanisms for monitoring and control to ensure that current regulations are complied with and to ensure that their workers and those of the subcontractors are working in the safest conditions possible on the works and in the work centres.

The policy for health and safety at work is geared towards:

  • Integrating the prevention of risks in decision making at all levels in the hierarchy of the company.
  • Planning, organising and implementing an appropriate follow-up preventative plan to reduce the number of risky situations in the works.
  • Involving all interested parties (clients, subcontractors and own staff) in Health and Safety management.

FCC has an independent medical service which is responsible for monitoring the health of the workers, thereby complying with current legislation and offering reassurance in a matter which is a cause of constant concern.

The Health and Safety Certificate was obtained following the audit which reviewed the regulations according to the specifications of the OHSAS 18001:1999 for construction and allied companies.
