ARQUA, the Underwater Archaeology Museum in Cartagena, took home a prize from the 15th Architecture Prizes of the Region of Murcia.

The prizes, jointly promoted by the Department of Public Works and Transport of the Region of Murcia and the Official Professional Association of Architects of Murcia, provide recognition for the professional work of architects and the quality of the spaces they create as the stage where human relations take place.

The museum, built by FCC and designed by architect Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra, is an example of a well-conceived, well-carried-out project for the administration, preservation, research and display of the underwater archaeological heritage.

ARQUA, a European pacesetter in the ranks of marine archaeology museums, has a total floor area of 6,000 square metres housing more than a thousand underwater pieces of the Spanish subaquatic cultural heritage. It is outfitted with the latest interactive video and display technology to enable visitors to get a real feeling for the museum’s absorbing contents and the environment they come from.
