The hospital will provide care for a population of 134,000
On 12 February last, President Esperanza Aguirre of the Community of Madrid laid the first stone at Torrejón de Ardoz Hospital, which will eventually be raised on a 62,000-square metre-lot in what is known as the “Soto de Henares” area. The building, which FCC Construcción will be constructing in a joint venture, will consist of three storeys above ground for hospital and office use and two basement storeys for parking and building systems.
The hospital will be equipped with 221 double rooms for single use in hospitalisation, 47 outpatient clinic rooms, six delivery rooms and ten operating rooms. The new centre will provide health coverage for the inhabitants of Torrejón de Ardoz and several other neighbouring towns, a total population of around 134,000.
The initial investment earmarked for starting up the hospital is nearly 121 million euro. The centre incorporates criteria of sustainability, which means it uses renewable energy and bioclimatic architecture. It will also have electronic clinical records and digital radiography.
